Hepatitis E Virus Antibody (Anti-HEV IgM)

The Anti-HEV IgM test detects IgM antibodies to diagnose recent or acute hepatitis E infection.
1 parameters 1 Days Blood No

About Test

The Hepatitis E Virus Antibody (Anti-HEV IgM) test is used to detect recent or acute infection caused by the hepatitis E virus (HEV). This test identifies IgM antibodies produced by the immune system in response to the virus. Hepatitis E is typically transmitted through contaminated food or water and commonly leads to acute liver inflammation. While most cases are self-limiting, the infection can be severe in certain high-risk groups, especially pregnant women. IgM antibodies appear early during infection and usually remain detectable for a few weeks to months. This makes the Anti-HEV IgM test a reliable marker for identifying recent infection and distinguishing it from past exposure.

Why This Test

This test helps diagnose acute hepatitis E infection, especially in individuals with symptoms like jaundice, fever, or recent exposure to contaminated food or water.

Who Should Take

This test is recommended for individuals with symptoms of hepatitis, recent travel to high-risk areas, or suspected exposure to contaminated water. It is especially important in pregnant women due to higher risk of complications.
