Glucose Challenge Test (GCT) - 1 Hour (75g)

The Glucose Challenge Test measures blood sugar levels one hour after consuming 75g glucose to screen for gestational diabetes.
1 parameters 4 HR Blood No

About Test

The Glucose Challenge Test (GCT) is a screening test used to check how your body processes sugar, especially during pregnancy. It is most commonly used to detect gestational diabetes, a type of diabetes that can develop during pregnancy. In this test, you will be given a drink containing 75 grams of glucose. After one hour, a blood sample is taken to measure your blood sugar level. If your blood sugar is higher than normal, it may indicate that your body is not processing glucose effectively. The GCT is a simple, non-fasting test and is usually recommended between 24 and 28 weeks of pregnancy. If the result is abnormal, your doctor may advise a follow-up Oral Glucose Tolerance Test (OGTT) for confirmation.

Why This Test

This test is primarily used to screen for gestational diabetes during pregnancy and to identify early glucose intolerance, helping prevent complications for both mother and baby.

Who Should Take

This test is recommended for pregnant women between 24–28 weeks of pregnancy or earlier if they have risk factors such as obesity, family history of diabetes, or previous gestational diabetes.
